I've tried Google Analytics and the Facebook Like button in the past and I've noticed they can really slow my site down when I'm browsing around. My site doesn't make any calls to outside servers and the call out can prevent my page from loading until the call is complete. Has anyone found a way to prevent this from happening?

put the javascript for GA and FB right before the </body> tag and that should allow most of the page to render before the scripts are executed.
