3 years ago my highest traffic day(from natural search) was Saturday. Since then it has very gradually shifted thru Sunday and then Monday and it now rests firmly on Tuesday. My weekly stats result in graphs that look like a saw blade with the peaks consistently on Tuesday.
Additionally it's not that my total traffic has increased more quickly on Tuesday, it looks like the traffic from other days has both changed in quality and has receded slightly despite overall growth in total.
Is it because the site has a handful of affiliate offers and it sells no product that perhaps search engines direct people to other sites on peak shopping periods? My transactional traffic(traffic to pages with an affiliate link) is down and informational traffic(pages with no offers) is conversely up... but why Tuesday?

Could there have been a change in how your visitors choose web surfing time?
My peak days were on the weekends, but that gradually shifted a few years ago to weekdays, when people were at work. Tuesdays and Wednesdays seem to be the best. It's my theory that people are using my site from work more than from home, and that Mondays are for catching up with leftover work from the prior week. By Tuesday or Wednesday, there's some goof-off time available for looking at and/or buying widgets.

For my one ecommerece site it seems to be Sun-Wed. I think it is simply more people shop at work, and given the time of the purchases, I would say primarily during lunch or near the end of the work day.

Sun-Wed here as well, though more than half my pages do not sell product or mention products for sale(aff offers etc). I did some research on this and found some interesting things, this makes total sense!
Tuesday is the current version of the word Tyrsday, Tyr being the Norse god of war, and I'm being reminded to strap my armor on once again and begin doing more than being the watched. In war you don't have to find the perfect way of defeating an enemy, or even understand their methods, you need to be trust your recon instincts and be first to find something that works, and then press on.
In this case I've become fat an lazy and while Google watches me I've been lax in running small studies to find what works and what is repeatable. Now when my traffic peak becomes Thursday, that being the day of Thor in old norse, I'll know I rule the interwebs a god!
There, I've spent my good-off time as well and doubt more than 2-3 people will have read past the first sentence, back to the grind :)
