Jimmy Wales Admits Wikipedia Is Too Complicated To Edit [bbc.co.uk]
Wikipedia is too complicated for many people to modify despite billing itself as "the free encyclopaedia that anyone can edit", its founder has said.

Jimmy Wales told BBC News the site wants a new generation of contributors, including more women.

I wanted to make a contribution on a topic that I knew about, I read the page or so of destructions about how to proceed, it was mindless, I gave up very quickly.

The editing is tricky, but what's really arcane is understanding their policies and how to dispute something. The "power users" in some cases are using this power to further their own agendas, which in some cases means wiping references to content sites off Wikipedia. This thing is a monster.

It reminds me a little of Dmoz, but perhaps on steroids.

I got an editor from hell once who insisted a particular band played certain instruments, he was confused with digital sounds added later on. The band members themselves only use their voices, as is traditional in their region dating back many centuries. The bands website says this on page one yet the editor went on a power trip with me about his knowledge of my favorite band and he deleted my update and later my notes and insisted they all played different instruments. He took my request that he at least visit their website as an insult.

I'd say the site has issues to deal with on many levels. I'm apparently no longer part of that "anybody" crowd yet that's just fine with me. Wikipedia looks silly for having it wrong, still, and it seems nobody can correct it for them.
