| inspiration needed on the how often to notify members via email

I've got a widget enthusiast website where members can upload widget images and videos and write about them.
I've just added a friends feature which basically is a subscribe feature so a friend is subscribed to another friend's widget pages.
The question is now, how often to notify friends (via email) ?
Should it be:
a) Straight away ?
b) After some time ?
Solution A ensures that their is friend activity (comments, etc) straight away on new updates, however can be an issue if a email pops in every 2 hours due to many friends updating their pages.
Solution B allows to send one email with several updates from multiple friends, especially for if a member has many friends it can group updates from the past 3 days (or once a week).
Any suggestions, ideas, etc ?

Give your members the option when they sign up: immediately, daily, weekly.
