sounds like basic gallery-making software will do that.
look for simpler stuff, since you want to do a folder upload. I use "web album generator" for this purpose. [ornj.net...]
you probably already know to make a backup of the high res pictures before messing with them.

Thanks but that Web Album Generator resizes the original images. I need the originals full sized.

I use Thumbs Plus for that... even builds the pages and links... (not free) Cerious Software. Bing it.

Does Thumbs Plus resize the original file ?

I thought resizing was optional. I have not checked out the latest version.
work-around is to copy the full-sized pics over the re-sized pics. (using same file names)

ThumbsPlus? Not unless you want it to... will write the thumbnail in a variety of formats (gif, jpg, progressive, etc), uniquely name the thumbnail based on original filename, create the links and can even develop separate folders, create the thumbs html page, skin it to your template or any of several dozen default layout styles, choose the number per page, etc. Very complete. I also use it to manage over a half-million images of all kinds... that said, I do believe there are a number of open source and free image programs (command line or gui) that will do what you seek... and do it on the fly.

ThumbsPlus does the job perfectly.
Many thanks !
