Alexa Vs Compete

I checked out a site example.com on both Alexa and Compete and Compete shows over 80,000 visitors/day while Alexa shows the site having less traffic than a site that I know has 30,000 visitors/day.

Which do you think shows a more accurate estimate of the daily traffic?

Add quantcast to the comparison and take the two of three that are closest to each other.

Quantcast: horrible data for one of the sites. it shows 3K/day when I know the site has anywhere between 40-80K/day

on the other hand it shows better results than compete for one of the other websites I know of.

I guess you cant really rely on any of those mentioned sites.

No, you can't, but that's a given.

Just take them as a group of datapoints that give you a slightly better guess than a magic 8-ball as to what ballpark of traffic you are talking about.

Use Google Ad Planner, it's scarily accurate.

Why 'Bing' is doing nothing?

it's (scarily) accurate

On some, but not on all sites.

Yeah, it's pretty much niche-specific from what I've seen. I've made some checks for one specific niche where I knew the rough stats for quite a few sites and correlated that to alexa's data. That made it possible to predict stats for that niche (and country), but not necessarily for other niches or countries.
