Problems with redirection on French server
host won't let me connect as I am not in France

I lived in France for 5 years and had a website served by [a french hosting company]. I left in 2006 and moved to the Czech Republic where I have an .eu website using a server based in the UK. Stupidly, I didn't put in redirect 301s before I left France, thinking I could do it from here. I can't. When I try to access it, I am told, 'you are not connecting via a [snip] connection in France, so get lost,' in as many words. Is there ANY other way I can do it? As it is, my new site is 'competing' with the old one and my traffic is suffering.

change the dns settings at your registrar to point the old domain to your new host and then do the redirects at your new host.

Would you be kind enough to tell me how I can change my dns settings? I've never done this before.

you need to access your account at your domain registrar and they most likely have a web interface/control panel to direct your domain to the nameservers at your new host or another set of nameservers if you prefer.

you can obtain your registrar by doing a whois on your domain.

I have a lot of technical detail from the whois, thanks for that, but I can't see any kind of webinterface or control panel. It's a bit out of my league unfortunately.

start by going to the home page for your registrar and logging in to the site.
