On one of my community websites I have a photo gallery where users can submit photos. (i'm using coppermine)
In this system - I've included the option for the users to include a URL to their own personal websites via a "Website" field; when submitting information about each photo.
What are your thoughts on implementing this field? As of now - I'm of the opinion that if the user is willing to share their photo with the community, I might as well award them with a high traffic link to their website.
Anyways - it seems to me they'd include a link in the photos description; whether I include a field or not - so I might as well make the information more presentable and user friendly.
On first reading I was going to say go for it but then I thought about another forum that I visit that has a high proportion newbie webmasters who have no understanding of the web and often not even of basic keyboard skills. The number of irrelevant entries in the "website" field on those posts makes me thinks that: 1. half the people without sites will think that they are not allowed to upload 2. a significant proportion will put in an irrelvant url 3. a significant proportion will put in an invalid address
Make it clear that html is permitted and relevent links are permitted and let people put the link in their comment.
