I'm currently using Google Custom search but find the depth isn't always there, and it doesn't seem to search for accented alternatives, e.g. Renée and Renee are two different things where as htdig would allow you to find both. I've run htdig before, but found it wasn't as flexible in terms of templates and produced non-xhtml pages. Any suggestions for an up-to-date, easy to modify/template, site search solution? Thanks.

A quick Google revealed to me this site: http://isearchthenet.com/isearch/ I have not tried it myself however it appears to be what you are looking for. (Provided that your server can run PHP scripts and has database capabilities). Hope that this helps.

There is a workaround to the issues you mentioned. Since the custom search is looking over pages on your site from the google directory, you can make sure the indexed pages are complete. If you want one version of Renee to pull up results for both, make sure you have both versions written on the page etc. Custom search isnt a great idea until a site has a lot of indexed content imo. Are you well indexed?

About 23,300 pages, but some aren't getting picked up.
