Hi,

I just returned to the same company after a break and many people had been putting fingers in the wesite. There is an info.txt file with contact info including email. By coincidence we are getting a ridiculous amount of spam and I wonder if the 2 are connected? Spam email harvesters getting the email from info.txt?

And do I need info.txt anyway? I though it was just for Alexa?

Thanks
:)

You don't need it, and yes it was for Alexa (not even sure that they use it any more though?).

Quite possibly some older email harvesting bots still look out for it.

What do the server logs tell you? Who's been grabbing it?

Or it could be some "configuration" file for a free contact mailer script or some other program. Believe it or not, there are many out there that work this way so someone just has to edit a plain text file.
