Does Ajax trigger server down?

Hello all,

My webmaster developped a very nice photo album using Ajax.

Normally when you click on "Next Page", the webpage jumps to another
page, but Ajax stays on the same page, even a html page, which is cool.

I found a problem though. When I stayed at the album, and clicked "next", "next", it did show new photos, but all of a sudden, it shows "problem to connect", and my entire site is down.

After a few minutes (around 2), the site is back again.
My current host works great with php, and stastic pages. It always worked out fine.

Could the Ajax trigger the sudden break-down of the server? I talked with my webmaster, he mentions that Ajax have a lots of requests with database, but he is not sure.

Please help! Thanks
