Best technology to embed video in homepage. ?

Hi all, we plan to have a video done to be used on the website.

There seem to be many and various formats that can be used if it is to be embedded in our webpage.

We have been offerred MOV Quicktime FLV and MP4 (Low & High Res) ..

What file format do people recommend?

What format do people like the BBC use on their news site?

IMO, the current best format is Flash (FLV). It's what YouTube and many other sites use. Adobe claims that Flash has a more then a 90% installed base which means that most people will be able to play the video without having to load any other plug-ins.

Thanks for that travelin cat, looks like we are covered then.

Not sure what all the rest are most suitable for ... we will apparently get it in MOV Quicktime FLV and MP4 (Low & High Res) ..

But the application on our website is its most important app.

Are there any unusual hosting requirements I need to know about?

Another question on this.

Assuming we want to embed a FLV video into our homepage, is there anything tricky about making it work.

I have embedded snippets of flash animation before, that was pretty simple, will this be the same?
