hi. i'm trying to set up a video streaming server similar to youtube where a user can scan to any location in the video and start viewing. i'd prefer using apache 1.3 instead of lighttpd which youtube uses.

any suggestions on how to set up video streaming on an apache 1.3 server? i know there are streaming modules available for apache 2.x but not sure if streaming is even possible with v. 1.3. thanks.

Its not so much the server, but the software you use to run your service. If you get a movie file and link to it the end user will be able to view the movie.

Many of the video site applications allow you to use YouTube like features such as user accounts, flash encoding and allowing other sites to embed your media.

Setting up a video/media sharing site isn't all that difficult providing you pay for software as opposed to developing it. The biggest hurdle I see is making it financialy worthwhile. Your bandwidth costs are going to be very high.

Mack.
