Did Twitter disable status update links?

I have several twitter links that allow visitors to one-click a status update to Twitter from my page and it's worked wonders for a long while but now when someone clicks on the link the status info isn't automatically pasted into a visitors tweet box to post.

Example of twitter status update link, i swapped out twitter.com for example.com:
example.com/home?status=Blue%20Widget%20Sale%20on%20http://www.example.com/

Doesn't work anymore. The "whats happening" box on twitter doesn't add the status update automatically, did they turn that off? If I can't form a link that populates the what's happening box I have little reason to send my visitors to twitter, I can't expect them to backpage to grab url's and page titles etc.

nevermind, it seems I need to follow Twitter news more closely (bleh). They disabled old status links and want webmasters to use the new intent platform instead.

apparently you can use the symbol @ but not the hashtag #, for that use "%23" without the quotes instead.
