Sorting SERPs across two axes

I've seen wannabe SEs try to shake up the traditional layout of a SERP by displaying the results in a grid.

What if it wasn't just presentational but sorted 2-dimensionally.

Best match for the search vertically as usual, but a particular variable to vary horizontally. Brand/diversity perhaps, or established/fresh, amount of information sought (better term?) informational->transactional->navigational, amount of advertising on page(!), amount of content on page, reading level, site relevance/page relevance etc.
