Not sure if this will hurt my rankings

I currently have a site which ranks int he top 4 google results for its keywords. I have recently aquired another domian that compliments the site. Will it hurt my rankings if I duplicate the site, host it under the new unique domain name on a new ip address, and change the keywords to help it rank better for those keywords? Or will google consider this too close of a duplicate site and consequently drop my already highly ranked site down in the serps?

So it's going to have exactly duplicate content except for the keywords? Bad idea. Most likely the newer site will be the one hit with a duplicate content penalty, but why take the risk? Focus your efforts on writing new, original complimentary content instead.

that's what I assumed...but I just wanted to double check so I didn't break any rules.

Thanks!
