Hello All,

If you sell different products in a moderately competitive niche and want to establish in it, then considering the present search engine algorithms, I have two game plans in mind:

Plan A:
Build one macro site:
1. With multiple categories
2. Unique content for each of these categories
3. Unique products listed in these categories
4. The site will be SEO'd, promoted and marketed Online

Plan B:
Build one macro site alongwith five micro sites:
we build one macro site and multiple micro sites for different products categories.

For instance in this situation we will develop one primary site and five secondary sites. We decide to use these primary sites for supporting the main site.

The macrosite dot com is the primary domain and 5 domains having keyword1 dot com, keyword2 dot com, keyword3 dot com, keyword4 dot com, keyword5 dot com to support the macrosite dot com.

In such a situation please let me know of your insight about the following plan:

Main Site:
macrosite dot com

Develop a macro site. The macro site will have different sections according to its product categories. For example a website selling furniture will have the following categories:
- Bedroom Furniture
- Living room furniture
- Entertainment furniture
- Kids Furniture
- Office Furniture

Now the macro site would develop these categories and feature the products accordingly.
Each furniture section will have its unique content.

Simultaneously, develop 5 supportive sites having the "keyphrase" in their domain name. For example:

Supportive Sites:
- BedroomFurniture dot com
- Livingroomfurniture dot com
- Entertainmentfurniture dot com
- KidsFurniture dot com
- OfficeFurniture dot com

Each of these supportive sites would be independent of the main site.
Each of these supportive sites would have unique content.

In this case all the 6 sites (1 main and 5 supportive) will be SEO'd and promoted online.

From the above two plans, from your experience and expertise which one would you suggest me to apply. It will be really nice if also specify the reason for supporting either Plan A or Plan B.

I am thankful to all the thread participants for sharing their valuable time and experience! Thanks once again!

Cheers :)

I would go with plan A and put all my resources towards one site, not spread around six. You can still make it niche friendly with landing pages and can put keywords in the URL instead of domain name. Larger sites have worked best for me so far.
