| Google shows old content of meta description tag

whenever my site (homepage) comes up in search results on google, the description that is shown is an old one-way back ago. Google does visit my site often and it did update the title tag- so why does the meta description didn't update as well?
any suggestions what i should do?

If your site is in ODP, you may find they are using the ODP description, and there's ways of stopping that happening. If that is not the case, there's not a lot you can do about it; they update their cache when it suits them.
