Using li:after for pipe, good/bad?
Does inserting a pipe via css affect SEO

Browser compatibility issues aside, does using

li:after {
content:"|";
padding:0 5px;
}

for spacing navigation links have any adverse affects on SEO? I find it offers a great advantage for responsive designs as I can switch it from display inline to display block on small screens and then remove the pipe, but I was never really clear how SE's read it.

Any input will be greatly appreciated.
