| Preparing domain site for new launch

Hi,
I just bought a new domain which is actually old but all the content is gone (anyway it wasn't really getting any traffic).
I will have to start afresh. My new site will only be launch next year but I want to prep it right now to get traffic for keywords I am targeting. Should I start a blog or some articles etc?
My concern is that when the actual site is launched, I will have to intergrate or migrate these 'content pages' to my design/blog wordpress etc and it will change the balance of things. Would it affect it much?
So what do you suggest I do to prep a new site?
