Most good seo tools used by internet marketers are not free, but they always give free trials, so you can try them and see if they suit you.
Market samurai, scrapebox, xrumer, bookmarking demon, article marketing robot, the best spinner and senukex are some of the best SEO tools around.
You can always look around for free tools but none of them will give you the edge needed to outrank competition.

I think the best free seo tool is the SEOmoz plugin for Chrome and Mozilla :) it shows some very cool stats
