Extra Domains - Better Pointing to them a subdomain or folder?

Since I was feeling better this past week - I started cleaning out some of my domain names, and getting the hosting company to host the DNS.

I have a few domain names that I think it would be better to point to a specific sub-domain or folder.

Which would be best? For example, subdomain.example.com or www.example.com/folder for a domain name (like www.subdomain.com).

The redirects, etc are done via the server - they have set up the DNS records to point to the main domains (i.e. www.my-example.com go to www.example.com). Is there a website to check to make sure that www.my-example.com is pointing properly? What we did was - create the DNS records on their server, and then add the domain into the domain pointer / host header. Is this OK as well?

Thank you!
