I have a site not touched for 6 years that still ranks well for its target terms.
I think how long your rankings remain, partly depends on how much activity your competitors are up to.

Whose lifetime? :-)

No. The market changes. The search engines change. Thus, the results change.
A site may show up at the top for a while, but there is no guarantee that it will stay there. If the space is competitive, it will eventually be pushed down.

welcome to WebmasterWorld [webmasterworld.com], epkgupta!
part of SEO is doing some things right and these will always be right.
(standards and protocols for example)
in some cases, part of SEO is a process of continuous improvement.

I am not sure to what extend is your SEO for this site that you say nothing has been done and yet the serp remains (presuming Google page 1?). I would really be surprised that no onsite or offsite seo including backlink building for the last 2 years and yet it performs so well. If so then there is absolutely no competition. But I wonder how long this will last though because Google likes to see fresh content on websites.

You must start the SEO work again. Today you may have good SERP, but in future this may not be. Because if your competitors are doing promotion, they can occupy your position in search results and you may left behind
