Hi,

i have a question on niche site SEO. I've found out, that "poker" is a very lucrative and overlooked (in SEO opinion) niche in my country. I am planning to make an informative site on this, like: news, rooms, video, forums, etc.
Local direct searches for "poker" in G are around 10k (which is a good number here) and similair 3-6 searches (poker rooms etc.) are somewhere in 5-10k monthly. Google shows around 450k local sites on this keyword.
The top5 of them have very easy beatable specs (links, pr and SEO).

I was like "WOW at last i have found the gold nugget!" at first, but now i am in doubts.. If the topic is very hot, everyone speaks about it around here and searches for it why it is so dull in google?

What pitfalls can this niche have and what did i overlook in my analysis?

Thanks in advance.

Obviously your pitfall will be that you have no intention of creating anything new and useful for the Internet.

Given the quotes round "poker", I assume this is not English language?

* Local laws regarding online gambling.
* Local laws regarding running a site on gambling (don't know if anywhere does this if you're not actually enabling gambling on the site)

However, if you're not enabling gambling on the site then extra focus to
* Where do visitors go to indulge. Do these sites offer any of this?

* Where will you get links from if the local niche is not large? Are you sure the top5 are beatable?
* What percentage of those searches are people looking to play online, and how many just looking for basic instructions for a home game etc (May affect monetisation).

Not my niche. I very much doubt I've exhausted the options.
