What's up with the nofollows on Reddit?

Maybe this belongs in the social media section, but it's more of an seo question. In some of reddits sections such as "new" the stories seems to be arbitrarily nofollowed...the "most controversial section" has almost all stories nofollowed except for one or two. This changes when I log in and out or reload, but not in any consistent way...anyone know why this is? I'm asking because I've seen other sites that seem to randomly slip one dofollow link in with the nofollows, and it usually can't be explained with paid advertsing etc.

Actually after some time social bookmarking sites changes his rules and switch links to dofollow to nofollow.

But like I mentioned, this happens in the "new" section where most of the stories are < one hour old

search on "add nofollow to comment titles on low point (or banned) comments or links" and you'll find a reddit changelog. might be it.
