I have a static site the has a page that will be updated not more than 10 times a year. I don't need the feed to be created automatically, I can cut and paste into the xml file.

My question: how does the subscriber 'know' the feed has been updated? Does google reader check my page every so often? Do I have to do something on my end?

thanks for any help that can be afforded.

You could change the publish date of the feed and then ping one of the various ping sites to alert the various services of the change.
