How to get more repeat visitors
Most people do not know RSS feeds

 5:48 am on Apr 16, 2008 (gmt 0)

Around 100.000 visits per month
Around 75.000 visits by search engines

The RSS feeds are accesses 2000 times a day

There are only 15 subscriptions for news by email

How to get more repeated visitors is a key question for me.

There are all RSS feeds in the head section, so they show up at MSIE and Firefox

There is a RSS symbol in the navigation area for news RSS feeds

There is a subscribe link leading to a page with different possibilities, subscribe by RSS feeds or email (Feedburner)

Any suggestions to improve the situation?

Do you have links to your RSS feed from the individual articles/pages? It sounds like you have most of the basic infrastructure in place.

Perhaps you could expand the content on the pages that describe your RSS feeds. Explain to your visitors specifically why/how RSS feeds can be a benefit for them. Education campaigns like that can give your feeds a boost.

Another idea might be to simply increase the size of the RSS logo to draw even more attention to it.

On each single page is the RSS symbol

[.] RSS News Feeds

Now I have just implemented a drop down field below the logo.

The drop down field below the logo is 300 pixel width and 500 pixel height and explains, that this sites have regular new content and the advantages to subscribe to the news.

I have also on each page a "Help, hints & tricks" link to some pages, where I explain how to search by the local google search on my site, and several pages about RSS feeds.

For most non techie people RSS is a solution looking for a problem. They just don't see it as something that they need to understand so never bother to find out about the benefits.
