Disallow in Robots against guidelines?

 10:43 pm on Jan 5, 2009 (gmt 0)

Does it go against any search engine guidelines to swap links with other websites and then Disallow the page you list your recip links on?

My understanding is that this in fact protects you from passing pagerank around in what might have been deemed a recip. linking scheme.

Bad karma if you trade links then disallow your link page.

It is not against search engine guidelines and it will stop pagerank from being passed.

If you do not tell your link partner that you are doing that then it is bad karma. Some newbie webmasters may fall for this trick but experienced webmasters will delete their link to your site and you will not get benefit after spending time recruiting the link.

Thanks for the info. We only link to other sites for our visitors' benefit- not to pass pagerank for our partner sites.
