Robots.txt to improve ranks
Will blocking of internal pages through robots.txt improve SE rankings

 9:58 am on Sep 9, 2007 (gmt 0)

Hello Friends,

I have a site which has more than 200 pages in it..all indexed by Google.

Almost all the pages have decent PR on them (2 - 3)

Now many of those pages are not intended to be ranked or are not important enough.

Now, I have a feeling that having so many pages indexed distributes the available link juice thinly amongst each of those pages.

So if I block some of those pages, would the existing un-blocked pages get a higher share of the link juice and will that aid in having better rankings in the search engines?

Kindly let me know your thoughts on this.

Thanks a lot :)

What is your internal link structure like?

My internal link structure is of clear text HTML with major pages linked from the homepage and deeper pages linked from the 1st level and 2nd level pages.

The pages I've blocked are mostly 2-4 level deep from the homepage
