If I'm understanding you correctly I think we're saying essentially the same thing. I wasn't suggesting a separate feed for the individual post. Normally blog software will append the new entry to the site's feed.

When you ping these feed tracking/aggregating services you're just telling them your feed has been updated and they can come back and grab the new content more quickly. Otherwise they have their own schedules to come back and look for new content, and that may not meet your publishing schedule.
