---- RSS vs Newsletter

Hi

I am quite new to the world of RSS/newsletters. The irony is that we have just short of 1500 visitors who have opted-in to our newsletter! I put this option there in case the response was large enough to warrant sending one in the future. I think this number now justifies some action..

Before I ask any questions I should probably describe the nature of our site. We are basically an advertising portal - clients list services with us and we source business for them in the form of enquiries. We have approximately 5,000 listings.

I have been quickly researching the virtues of newsletters and what seems to be their natural successor - RSS. Personally, I very rarely open any newsletters which has always skewed my view on them.

What I would like to know is that strategies we can employ moving forward - should we go RSS or newsletters or both? What should these feeds / newsletters contain? Service listings? Services which are on special? Competitions? I'm not sure if there is enough information here to reply with substance, but any feedback would be appreciated!
