If just the BBC, then Sun, the Guardian and Telegraph could be persuaded to dump most references to G and then use "Bing It" and show any references to searching using "Bing" - then there would be a semblance of hope. Why?

The UK is awash with wannabees and followers - only a few innovaters IMHO - so start using it and very quickly lots of people will be Binging it...especially with the FAR FAR superior results I have seen across 30 or 40 different verticals I have been watching.

People get tired of having the first 11 results be from the same site

Exactly - this is a very very poor search experience... check out some jobs and out of top 30 I have seen 20 from the same site... how can that be good? (except for G trying to soft-blackmail companies to Adwords...!)
