Based on all the changes with Google it almost seems like the goal was to force more companies to pay up for exposure (ie ppc).

I am seeing really bad results and common spam tricks resulting in top spots.

I have meet Matt Cutts (and like him) and I just find it hard to believe that Panda is doing "everything we expected it to do" hmmm it's hard to believe that Google can consistently make these type of mistakes.

However, the King rarely realizes what the cost of those mistakes are until the kingdom is lost.

AltaVista was King, Yahoo too and since then Google has taken the throne. However the innovation and search simplicity that use to make Google cool is gone and Google current changes are now just a reason to consider other options and look for what's next. Maybe Bing or maybe someone else.
