Page is a not externally linkable

I have a couple of multi-keyword domain names that don't lend themselves well to creating a profitable website through advertising or product sales. I see many similar domains/keywords simply having parked pages.
The domain names would however lend themselves well to creating a single page wikipedia-like quality article about the subject keywords. I'd much prefer doing this than parking them and I'm interested in the subject so letting them go isn't happening.
Concerns: If I add a single link from the one page 2000+ word site to a related site I already have developed would this be considered a doorway page? I see well ranked similar one page sites linking to an established author site so I would imagine they are acceptable but these sites are all 7+ years old.
Should I expect the same results that these similar sites have in time, assuming the same link building etc, or do new single page sites struggle a great deal?
