I don't think there is as much to worry about for the affiliate marketer as some people have suggested. Essentially the use for this is the same as mysimon, kelkoo etc. which have been around for years, and affiliates have co-existed quite happilly . Also I think you're looking at 18 months or so before this will get any kind of significant user base so I don't think you need to worry too much yet. It will depend to a large extent on how much google pushes the service to it's users. I've asked people I know if they use google news search at all. Everyone of them said no they didn't even know it existed despite the extra tab on the homepage.
