The majority of pages on the site are in an 'old' section with hand-built HTML files. Most of these pages are seldom updated. The 'new' section of the site uses Wordpress as a content management system. It currently consists of nearly 1,000 pages. I am new to sitemaps, and wonder whether there is a way to create one sitemap covering both sections (both types of files). Alternatively, what would happen if I provide Google with a sitemap covering only the Wordpress section of the website? Would it cause Google to ignore or even de-list the older pages? The Wordpress section of the site has frequent additions of new posts, and less frequent updates and additions to about 10% of the older posts.
I have a 12-year-old website that is well-indexed by Google and others. IT is considered an authority site in its field.
