This being the case I obviously get, I take it for granted that unless everything is clean and tidy nothing will happen,or am I missing something here?

I have validated my site and I get an ERROR invalid line on EVERY line, i.e. line1

We're sorry, this robots.txt does NOT validate.
I am an absolute newbie at this.
