Side note, you don't validate to increase traffic, you validate to insure (as best as possible) compatibility with standards compliant devices. That being said, since the OP is using non semantic approaches (empty <br/>, bare text without containers, for example) an XHTML doctype is probably not needed. Think about why you need an XHTML doctype. Most of the time, you don't.
