Somehow this thread reminds me of the time I added an oil pressure gauge to my '85 Escort. It ran fine for a few days, but then on my way back from the Post Office, the hose for the new gauge popped off at the engine end. I lost two quarts of oil in the two blocks I drove before I could safely pull over and stop. Left a wide trail of oil down the street that was visible for at least a year afterward. It's been about four years, but I still haven't gotten the engine fully cleaned of all the oil that spewed out all over under the hood.
