I once saw a fire truck stopped at a red light. An active one, in lights-and-sirens mode. It was only for a moment-- the cars with the green light all duly stopped-- but it was still depressing that it had to stop at all.

Standard procedure over here to verify that the traffic with the official right of way has actually stopped.

Which is better, 10 seconds additional time or non arrival due to a crash?
