If you are into Science Fiction then Larry Niven has written several great collections of short stories, both set in his "known space" universe and elsewhere. Also the late Harlan Elison is worth a read.

Most of the Sherlock Holmes short stories by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle have a certain old world charm.
