The Scottish have a New Year's saying - Lang may yer lum reek!, which translates as "Long may your chimney smoke!" The concept is that if your chimney is smoking there is coal for the fire and all is well with the home and its family.

As time goes on and the older members of the family pass on, the importance of family unit, both close and extended, and the preciousness of the moment becomes ever so more apparent. Time is short, make the most of it with your loved ones.
