---- Thankful ... but

Liane - 4:04 pm on Nov 27, 2002 (gmt 0)

At Thanksgiving, I like to take an inventory and give thanks for all the wonderful things I have in my life. Great friends, good health, terrific dog, a job I love and so on.

On Sunday, I have to move from my very modest apartment as I have been very unceremoniously evicted by my landlord. Its a long story, but after 5 years, she has decided she won't have my dog there anymore.

In her mind (and its a pretty twisted one at times), Buddy is vicious and possessed by the devil! This she got from an incident this past August when she came to collect the rent and Buddy jumped up and licked her face when I opened the door. She thought he was trying to eat her and ran away hysterically waving her arms and screaming at the top of her lungs. Buddy is a 60 lb "island mutt" and is what most people would describe as overly friendly as well as overly exuberant.

I was given notice in September and promptly made a deal for a another apartment just 1000 yards away from where I am now. Unfortunately, my new apartment is still under construction and has no power, no water and no doors ... not to mention that they haven't even started to build the kitchen cabinets yet!

I am now desperately seeking somewhere to store all my furniture and other "stuff" and trying to locate a place to stay with my overly friendly island mutt for the next 6 to 8 weeks! Unfortunately, as this is a very popular tourist destination, all my friends with villas and nice big homes which sit empty many months of the year ... are all fully booked.

A friend of mine has a 44' Morgan (sailboat) at anchor, in the harbour across from my office and another friend has a lot where he plans to build his house in the next year or so. Both are possible options. Unfortunately, my friend with the boat is (somewhere) in Canada and all efforts to reach him have failed. I have access to several tents, so perhaps I will set up a little campsite on Jim's property and pretend like camping out over Christmas/New Years will be fun!

I hope Jim thinks its fun because he and his daughter are coming to stay with me for three weeks over Christmas and New Years too! Not looking forward to that conversation!

Oh well, I live in the Caribbean ... so I suppose I should be thankful that I get to enjoy great weather and great views ... and the great outdoors! :)
