Google calls their algorithm "SmartPricing", but I suspect some people here might prefer my version. :)

IMHO it probably takes G at least a week or so to decide how well ads perform on your site and adjust your payments downwards as necessary, if it does.

But if your site converts well for advertisers and isn't autogenerated rubbish, for example, then maybe SmartPiercing(TM) will never get you. Here's hoping...

Let us know in a few weeks if you see any consistent changes.
