Here's another thought:

During the slow summer months we add "content" to our AdWords program in order to keep traffic flowing at reasonable levels.

Once the kids are back in school and mom & dad are thinking about winter vacations the cost gets too high for us to support (especially now that most of the key winter weeks are already booked) so we cut back on the content part.

We are just about reaching that point now and I would assume that other advertisers are doing the same thing.
