My site is all static pages, so making even minor site wide changes can take a day or more. As a result, I think long and hard about doing anything like that.

I have a static site too. But I use Dreamweaver templates which makes updating way easier. Then I just click the folders that contain the info & upload.

I also had a javascript banner rotation script installed on the site that, instead of containing banner ads, contained the menu on the left, and I had another one for menu on the right, etc. so I could easily add new menu topics by editing 1 file.

I haven't started using other formats, for now my pages are mostly html (except for forum).

Hours spent working... recently I have made a big push since I discovered how to use adsense... probably 5-10/day. Some days none, some days more. it depends.
