I don't see why the "Ads by Google" coming first is a problem. You also see it first on the vertical AdLinks, reading down.

Make sure to choose a color for it that will either contrast strongly with your links, so that people will ignore it, or that makes it less noticeable...

I am really pleased to see this new format. I have been experimenting with the vertical AdLinks and had reluctantly concluded that they didn't work well on most pages on my site, since my navigational elements run across the tops and bottoms of my pages. And what do I see? A format that should fit perfectly there. Or just about anywhere else.
