Have you tried using the new fonts? For me, the best results have been with "Open Sans".
Yes, but the last month sort of threw off my experiments. I'm generally of the opinion that anything that makes these new ad formats jump off the page, stand away from the regular content on the page is a good thing. So, color, font and a little extra spacing are all in my book of recommendations. These new text ads (IMHO) are designed to work poorly if you try to camouflage them into your content. Making them stand out has been working for me. Open Sans may be the contrast I'm referring to based on the fonts on your site. For someone else it could be some other font that contrasts with their content. Contrast is the key here I'm thinking.
