True Meg, but that's what life has become... a constant and totally encompassing bombardment of ads. Beyond the obvious insidious proliferation of ads on TV/radio/newspapers, they've infiltrated virtually every segment of daily life and... they continue to payoff so well that millions continue to be spent for just few seconds or inches of ad time/space.
Whether we believe we are blind to and/or fatigued by them, advertising sinks in on an almost subliminal level and direct our actions even when we feel we are ignoring them.
I'd almost venture a guess that it might go the other way - ads (particularly Google ads) are so deriguor and pervasive, on the web, that many don't even perceive them as ads anymore.
