UPDATE: I found a Google page that tells you how to remove your gmail account from your google account (http://support.google.com/accounts/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=61177). Has anyone tried this and been able to access adsense still? The link doesn't work when made clicky, not sure why.

The link worked for me. Here are the salient steps, according to [support.google.com ] at Google:

If you decide that you don't need your Gmail address anymore, here's how you can remove Gmail from your Google Account: Click the gear icon in the upper-right corner of Gmail, then Mail settings, and open the Accounts and Import tab. Click Other Google Account settings in the "Change account settings" section. Click Edit in the "My products" section. Click Remove Gmail permanently.

I don't dare try it yet -- I'm still hooked on Adsense income, and I actually use that Gmail account.
